20 simple but powerful life lessons that the sport of triathlon has taught me

  1. Enjoy the process rather than the product. It is the daily grind that takes you where you want to go. Finding enjoyment on the difficulty of a routine is the key.
  2. Be patient, there are no shortcuts. If you want to be good at something, you have to be willing to suck at it for a long time.
  3. Trust the process. It may not look like you are moving forward, but you are if you are following your plan.
  4. Train one session at a time. You don't really know if you will be able to do it tomorrow, then just focus on what is happening right now and do your best.
  5. There is always room for improvement. Work on your weaknesses and keep your strengths for when www.superleaguetriathlon.com matters the most. The moment you think you are absolutely right about something; you can be certain that you are not.
  6. Be grateful with every opportunity you have to do what you love. Tomorrow you may not be able to do it, so today do your best and enjoy it as much as you can.
  7. Respect your body, respect the other athletes and respect the sport. They will respect you back if you do.
  8. We learn more from the difficult days than from the good ones.
  9. If you keep doing the same thing, you will keep obtaining the same results.
  10. Pace yourself. Learn how to connect to your body and you will always make it to the finish line in one piece.
  11. At the end of the day, the most important result is to feel good about your effort. We forget times, money, people, but we never forget how we felt. Make sure you do what you can to have a good experience.
  12. Have a plan and stick to it. Things could be great and a moment later everything could turn around, but if you stick to your plan, you will always overcome adversity.
  13. Experience may be the most valuable asset you can have. Use it!
  14. Connect with the feeling of achievement that you get after big efforts. That way you can always rely on it when you feel like slacking off. Remember how good it feels to have done your job well.
  15. Be positive all the times. Your thoughts have a huge impact on what your body can and can't do.
  16. Smile. It feels great. Smiling will always make the journey more pleasant. Even in the roughest situations.
  17. Be true to yourself. Everything that happens is a result of your thoughts and actions. By being true to yourself you will always enjoy the process. Even when results are not what you originally planned.
  18. Time goes faster when things are easy rather than hard, so take advantage early, when you can control what happens. Adversity may come later and you may not have the strength to overcome it, but if you have certain advantage, you will be able to deal with it.
  19. Fuel yourself rather than eating for pleasure. You really are what you eat. Everything is affected by what we eat, even our thoughts. Find a diet that suits you and stick to it. Of course there are some comfort foods that are very enjoyable, but don't make it a habit.
  20. Make a lot of friends and visit as many different places and cultures as you can. It will make you a better person.
